You Can Heal Your Body

Not many people know this but just over a year ago I had major back surgery, I thought it was time I told my story to help and inspire others to know that whatever you’re going through, no matter how dark the days get it never lasts forever because In life the only thing that is guaranteed is change. Through pain and suffering is when most self growth and strength will come and to be honest in life today that is a blessing.

Late 2018 I hurt my back taking a yoga class, my back spasmed up and I couldn’t walk after the class finished. I ended up having a bulging disc which was undiagnosed for 3 months and in that time I was taking up to 6 anti-inflammatories a day just to be able to walk around and go to work.

On December 1st 2018 as I leant down into the fridge my back finally went on me altogether. I knew instantly it was serious because when I put my left foot on the ground it felt like an electric bolt going through my body. I had never experienced such excruciating pain in my life and before I knew it, I was getting stretchered into an ambulance, sucking on a green pen and being taken to hospital.

At the hospital the scan revealed I needed a back operation but there was a wait for up to 3 months. In that time all I could think of was how I would get through the next 3 months as I was in so much pain, lost all feeling in my left leg and couldn’t walk. The hospital suggested I get a steroid injection under CT scan to block the nerve so I could eventually walk and manage the pain as I waited for my back op but there were no guarantees.

I ended up waiting just over 2 months for my back op, it seemed like the longest 2 months of my life and there were some really dark days. I realised I didn’t know who I was anymore, everything that seemed important to me had been taken away in that time. I had so many questions running around in my head, What was going to happen to me? Am I ever going to walk properly again? Would I ever teach yoga again?

Yet these days taught me so much about myself, it taught me patience, self -compassion, resilience, strength, to be comfortable in the not so comfortable and to never give up. I had just started my I Am Free & Well business and I was supposed to be running my first detox retreat in 5 months time. How was that possibly going to happen? I couldn’t even see past the pain and the painkillers I was on at the time.

But I made a decision in that moment and decided to take my healing into my own hands and put my energy into my new business. It was up to me how I was going to choose to react in this situation, no one else and I needed to take responsibility for that. I stayed on my plant based diet, drank celery juice every morning to take the inflammation out of my body and to keep it as alkaline as possible leading into my operation so that my healing after the op would be smoother and quicker and I would be running my first detox retreat in Thailand.

Feb 4th 2019 I finally had my back op and it was worse than initially thought, when they opened me up, they were not just pushing a disc bulge back in, they were shaving bone, picking out fragments of broken bone and burning a nerve which connected to my left leg. To this day I still have some numbness under my left foot and I have not run since but I have learnt to adapt and I am super grateful I can walk these days, go to the gym and do yoga. When something gets taken away from you, you definitely appreciate it a lot more.

After the operation they ended up putting a drug called Clindamycin in the drip and it burnt the lining of my stomach so I had to not only work on healing my back after the op but my stomach lining too. I had 10 weeks to get myself better and ready to run my first detox retreat in Thailand. The road to healing was plant based food, celery juice, specialised movement and doing my own RESET Detox in Thailand which involved fasting, taking special drinks as well as doing yoga, meditation and enemas to clean out and heal my body.

Detoxing helped to speed up my healing process, took the inflammation out of my body and took all the drugs out of my system that I had taken for months leading into the operation and during the operation. Through the detox I felt very nauseous especially on the 2nd day during the enemas I was doing because it was releasing all the drugs from my system. But on the other side of the 7 day detox I felt like a new person, I had got myself back the person I knew before I had injured my back 7 months prior.

The power of fasting and detoxing is seriously underestimated it helps people heal disease and their bodies. We all have the ability to heal ourselves, given the right space, time and conditions. This is why I do what I do with I Am Free & Well because I am passionate about educating others on fasting, detoxing and how others can heal themselves and their bodies.
