Benefits Of A Plant Based Diet
I believe your health is a choice and from an early age I have always valued the importance of my health and wellness. When I was 15 I remember I was suffering with low self esteem because I started to get the worse skin break outs and develop acne. I felt very insecure that people were looking at my skin and it made me want to hide away from the world.
So I took myself off to a skin specialist and they told me I needed to make a few changes to my diet and lifestyle if I wanted my skin to improve.
They told me to cut the dairy out of my diet, start eating more fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water everyday. They also told me to go and see a naturopath to get a tonic that would clean out my liver and help with my digestion problems that I had.
I followed exactly what they told me and within a month my skin had cleared up, my digestion was functioning so much better, I was clearing the waste matter in my body and going to the bathroom everyday and I felt so much happier within myself. So from an early age I realised that working from the inside to change things on the outside really worked.
Since then my health and wellness is my top value and I choose to live my life in accordance with my values that’s why I now specialise in detoxing, helping others with detox programs and retreats to become healthier, well and feeling their absolute best because I know how important it is working from the inside/out and living a happier life.
I have experimented over the years with different foods, detoxing and mental health to make positive changes which I like to call the inner work. I played around with being vegetarian in my 20’s and always loved the feeling of feeling lighter and not so heavy in my body after eating meat. I also found that if I did eat meat I would get constipated so it really didn’t feel good for me personally.
Once I was in my 30’s I experimented with being vegan which is another step up from being a vegetarian and not eating any foods that contain animal products, so no dairy, gelatin or anything from an animal. At first it felt so challenging because you really don’t know what to eat. But I did some research and found that you can eat well being vegan/plant based with the right foods and get the protein, nutrients and minerals you need.
These days it’s super easy to find food choices if you are vegan/plant based at the supermarket, grocery store, markets, health food stores and there are many cook books and information around this. There are a lot of restaurants that serve great vegan and vegetarian meals too.
The key message here is that eating more fresh fruit and vegetables and plant based foods have so many health benefits for the body and I am a big believer in you should listen to your own body with what it needs in terms of nutrition. Being plant based is not going to resonate with everyone and that’s ok. Everyone has their own choices to make but I wanted to share my experience and the benefits I have encountered with my journey of being plant based so others who have never tried it before can get an insight to what it is like.
I know some of my family and friends are now substituting a few days of the week to have meat free days eating plant based foods and are feeling some great benefits from doing that. So make the right choices for your body and remember what you are putting into your body makes all the difference when it comes to your health and wellness.
